The Population and Housing Unit Estimates Program produces estimates of the population for the United States, its states, counties, cities, and towns, as well as for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and its municipios. Demographic components of population change (births, deaths, and migration) are produced at the national, state, and county levels of geography. Additionally, housing unit estimates are produced for the nation, states, and counties.
Most data produced by the Population and Housing Unit Estimates Program are available in the standard data products made available on its webpage. A limited number of files with extra detail (see below) are also available free of charge by submitting a special request featuring a short description of how the data will be used. Any requests for further demographic and/or geographic detail may be filled via special tabulation on a reimbursable basis. Percentages, rates, and other indicators can be calculated as part of a special tabulation.
Additional topics not available from the Population and Housing Unit Estimates Program may be available through other programs such the American Community Survey, the Puerto Rico Community Survey, and the Decennial Census. Such topics include education, income and poverty, employment, country of birth, value of property, and more. For more information on special tabulations from the American Community Survey and the Puerto Rico Community Survey, visit the ACS Custom Tabulations page. For information on special tabulations of Census data, please visit the Decennial Census of Population and Housing Special Tabulations page.
The following files feature extra demographic and/or geographic detail relative to our standard data products and may be made available free of charge. To request access to these files, please submit a request featuring a short description of how the data will be used to pop.cdob@census.gov.
