User Note

User note for the table package: School Enrollment in the United States, 2020 – Detailed Tables

Data collection during the COVID-19 pandemic may have affected some of the results reported in the 2020 school enrollment tables. Overall response to the October CPS fell from 84% in 2019 to 81% in 2020. Students may have continued their enrollment by a number of methods during the pandemic, including study at home, and students completing virtual or paper assignments provided by their schools were enrolled. Given the various methods of schooling, there was a potential for misclassification of enrollment status that may have artificially increased or decreased some enrollment estimates.
