This report presents detailed statistics for the population of the United States on field of vocational training, classified by various social and economic characteristics. The statistics are based on the 1970 Census of Population.

The text consists of an introduction and Appendices A through E, which appear after the tables.

Content of the Tables. The tables in this report present data for persons with vocational training classified by field of training according to such characteristics as educational attainment, labor force status, occupation, earnings in 1969, and industry. In addition, for analytical purposes, comparable data are shown in each table for persons who have never completed a vocational training program. Each table also provides statistics for persons who have not completed 4 or more years of college, this being regarded as the most relevant universe for data on this subject.

There are six unique tables contained in this report (i.e., tables 1, 5, 9, 10, 14, and 18). Each of these tables, with the exception of table 9, is followed by three others with exactly the same format, but which present data for the white, Negro, and Spanish origin populations, respectively. For example, table 1 presents data on the labor force status of persons of all races by field of vocational training; table 2 contains comparable data for white persons; table 3, for Negro persons; and table 4, for persons of Spanish origin.

Sample size. The statistics in this report are based on the 5-percent sample adjusted to represent the total population (see "Data Collection Procedures" in Appendix A).
