When using American Community Survey data in the Microdata Access Tool (MDAT) and all variables have the same suggested weight, you should use the suggested person or housing weight. This weight is automatically applied in the table view. If you are unsure how to find the suggested weight for your variable, see the FAQ: Which Statistical Weight Should I Apply in the Microdata Access Tool?
If you selected a mixture of housing and person variables, we recommend reviewing the default weight in MDAT in case you need to change it to meet the needs of your data analysis.
*Note: If FS (food stamps/SNAP) is the only housing variable you selected and you applied the person weight, your table will also include data for people living in group quarters (in addition to those living in households).
**When you want to find the number of households with no vehicles available where the householder is 50+, you may also choose to create the same table using HHLDRAGEP (householder age) instead of AGEP. This alternative method is more efficient for two reasons: (1) It does not require you to manually restrict the universe to reference person and (2) MDAT will automatically apply the housing unit weight since both HHLDRAGEP and VEH are housing variables. Other ACS variables convenient for householder-level analyses include HHLDRHISP (Hispanic origin of householder) and HHLRRAC1P (Race of householder).
a) Person Weight Applied: There are 8,009,033 people aged 50 years and over who live in a household where no one has access to a vehicle.

b) Housing Weight Applied and Table Universe Restricted to Householder (RELSHIPP = 20: Reference Person): There were 6,330,710 households with no vehicles available where the householder is aged 50 and over.
