The 2021 Modeled Tract Area Poverty Estimates (M-TAPE) project was initiated through an agreement with the Economic Development Administration (EDA).
The estimates were developed by extending modeling techniques used by the US Census Bureau’s Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) Program for estimation of sub-county poverty. M-TAPE, by providing current information on total poverty for all tracts in the United States, will better enable research and analysis of where poverty is located across the country and facilitate assessments of economic conditions at a finer scale.
