Darryl began his career at the Census Bureau in 1998. He was awarded the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal in 2001 for his work on standards for defining metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas.

Darryl holds a bachelor's degree in geography with a concentration in urban planning, as well as a master's degree in applied geography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
