Performing the Duties of Assistant Director for Economic Programs

Lisa Endy Donaldson is currently performing the duties of the assistant director for economic programs at the U.S. Census Bureau. The Economic Directorate conducts more than 60 monthly, quarterly, and annual surveys covering various sectors of the economy, including 12 economic indicators, an economic census and census of governments in years ending in two and seven.

Donaldson has been a member of the Senior Executive Service since November 2015, most recently as chief of the Economy-Wide Statistics Division (EWD). In that role, she served as survey director of the economic census, the census of governments, and the new Annual Integrated Economic Survey.

Donaldson has worked in the Economic Directorate for over three decades serving, among other things, as chief of its Economic Management Division, where she led activities supporting the survey life cycle – data collection, outreach, processing, and dissemination – and mission-enabling services such as project management and data stewardship. She oversaw expansion of the Quarterly Services Survey economic indicator to equal coverage of the economic census and was a key contributor in two iterations of the directorate’s Standardized Economic Processing System (StEPS), which is used for data collection and processing activities by many of our current survey programs. She has also provided subject matter expertise in support of Data Ingest and Collection for the Enterprise (DICE), the Enterprise Data Lake (EDL), and Census Enterprise Dissemination and Consumer Innovation (CEDSCI).

Donaldson received two Department of Commerce Gold Medal Awards for her efforts on the expansion of the Quarterly Services Survey and creation of the Small Business Pulse Survey; a Bronze Medal Award for her work on the StEPS platform; and multiple Director’s Awards for Innovation.

Donaldson holds a bachelor’s degree in management science, management information systems, and business administration, as well as a certificate in project management from the George Washington University.
