Census Workers Completing Delivery of 2020 Census Materials to Households in Puerto Rico

Press Release Number CB20-CN.66

JUNE 18, 2020 — Census workers are in the final stages of delivering 2020 Census invitations and paper questionnaires in Puerto Rico. By completing this effort, the U.S. Census Bureau urges households to respond now by completing and mailing back the paper questionnaire, responding online at 2020census.gov, or by phone at 844-426-2020 using the provided Census ID.

As of June 16, more than 99% of households in Puerto Rico have received the 2020 Census invitation packet. The Census Bureau, in close coordination with the Office of the Governor of Puerto Rico, resumed dropping off 2020 Census invitation packets at homes May 22 as part of a phased restart of 2020 Census operations. Census Bureau employees followed all lockdown and curfew measures outlined by Puerto Rico Executive Order 2020-038. In addition to delivering census materials, census workers updated the Census Bureau’s address list for households in Puerto Rico to ensure no living quarters were missed.

Currently, less than 20 percent of households have responded to the 2020 Census in Puerto Rico, which is why the Census Bureau urges every household to complete it as soon as possible online, by phone or by mail. Households that do not respond to the invitation will be visited by a census taker during the Nonresponse Followup Operation. Your response helps shape decisions about distribution of funds for public services such as schools, emergency response and health care in your community. Responding with the Census ID or paper questionnaire helps ensure the best count in Puerto Rico.

If your household has not received an invitation in the mail or at your door, please respond online at 2020census.gov or by phone at 844-426-2020.
