AUG. 26, 2021 — Today the U.S. Census Bureau released the Franchise Statistics Report from the 2017 Economic Census. The report includes national-level data for nearly 300 industries like fast-food restaurants that have franchises as well as other industries in 15 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) sectors published in the economic census.

This report includes data on the number of establishments, employment, annual payroll and sales for each industry (all businesses in the industry) and for franchise businesses in each industry. The franchise total is also broken out into whether the business is franchisee-owned or franchisor-owned. The report includes data by state for full- and limited-service restaurants only.
