OCT. 19, 2023 – The U.S. Census Bureau today released new state-level statistics on geographic mobility and place of birth in 2022. Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people from one location to another.

The state-to-state migration flows table package contains the following two tables:

• State-to-State Migration Flows provide estimates of the number of people moving between the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico and to the United States from abroad.
• State of Residence by Place of Birth provides estimates of people currently living in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico by place of birth.  

Newly released statistics are based on the 2022 American Community Survey (ACS), 1-year estimates.
