Census Open Innovation Summit Begins Today

JAN. 17, 2024 — The U.S. Census Bureau today kicked off the annual Census Open Innovation Summit 2024.

The three-day virtual conference, hosted by the Census Bureau’s Census Open Innovation Labs (COIL), will feature innovative technology and data products, amplify the value of open innovation in government, host conversations with leading experts and community leaders, and provide hands-on learning opportunities for attendees.

Each session will offer collaboration opportunities for federal, state, tribal and local government innovators, tech pioneers, community advocates, students and other attendees.

The 2024 summit will bring together trailblazers in the government innovation space for important discussions about technology, business investment and entrepreneurship, local government innovation, human-centered data, and more. Each session will showcase cross-sector collaboration and federal-community partnership.

Daily Sessions

Day 1 – Financial Inclusion and Economic Growth:

  • Opening Keynote: Jed Kolko, Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs, U.S. Department of Commerce.
  • Promoting Competition in the Credit Card Market: Let’s Talk Fair Comparison Tools
  • Improving Access to Capital in Indigenous Communities Through Data
  • Supporting Business Innovation in Puerto Rico: Leveraging Existing Funding & Identifying Gaps
  • Venture Investing Ecosystem: Industry & Government Perspectives

Day 2 – Human-Centered Data:

  • Opening Keynote: Dr. Ron S. Jarmin, Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer, U.S. Census Bureau.
  • Closing Keynote: Robert L. Santos, Director, U.S. Census Bureau.
  • Human-Centered Data: Usability and Access for Local Leaders & Friendly Disagreement Panel
  • Improving Data Quality in Puerto Rico: A Case Study on Funding Impact & Literacy Data
  • Is the Federal Government Getting Better at CX? A Friendly Debate
  • Spotlight on TOP University & The Value of Government-Academia Partnerships.
  • The Importance of Tribal Data Sovereignty: A Discussion with Indigenous Communities’ Leaders
