Introduction

Documenting census experience is an integral activity critical to a national statistical office’s future success in implementing censuses and improving overall data quality. This technical note provides guidelines for documenting census experience during the planning, implementation, and postcensus phases through administrative, methodological, and procedural history reports.

This note details important considerations for planning a knowledge management system for documentation as well as the important components that national statistical offices should include in historical reports to comprehensively preserve census historical memory.
