This public use data file and documentation provide the underlying calculations used to make the 2016 Section 203 Determinations. (Originally published December 5, 2016; Republished July 25, 2017). This file was updated on July 25th, 2017 to correct a miscalculation of the variances in the original Public Use File. An error was found in how reported variances were calculated, which resulted in a rounding error. The error did not affect the actual determination of jurisdictions required to comply with Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act. The list of 263 jurisdictions across the nation that must provide language assistance during elections for groups of citizens who are unable to speak or understand English adequately enough to participate in the electoral process remains accurate.
