Data User Notice posted on May 1, 2025: In April 2025, Census Bureau staff identified a processing error that affects selected data from the 2021 Annual Survey of Public Employment & Payroll (ASPEP) data published on May 16, 2024. We revised the full-time payroll and total payroll for the U.S. and Oklahoma under police protection total and police protection- persons with power of arrest. The processing error also impacted aggregate payroll totals for the U.S. and Oklahoma at the state- and state and local-levels. Additionally, response rates were impacted and have been revised accordingly.
State Government – Includes data from the 50 state governments only by government function.
Local Government – Includes data for all local governments (i.e., counties, municipalities, townships, special districts, and school districts) by government function.
State & Local Government – Includes combined data for all 50 state governments and all local governments (i.e., counties, municipalities, townships, special districts, and school districts) by government function.
Includes all data items by item code (functional category) for individual governments. Note that years not ending in ‘2’ or ‘7’ are not a census and do not include all governments. These years only include those governments sampled for the survey.
