How were the 2026 Census Test sites selected?

These test sites were selected because they allow the Census Bureau the opportunity to refine its operations and technologies, alongside ongoing small-scale testing for 2030 Census enhancements. The Huntsville and Spartanburg test sites also offered unique characteristics, such as rural and urban areas with historically low response rates, as well as complex housing units and hidden housing units.
