1950s aerial view of U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters, Suitland, Maryland. Suitland's open space proved an inviting home to expanding and relocating agencies, including the U.S. Census Bureau. The agency moved to Federal Office Building #3 (center) in 1942. The Census Bureau's presence spurred residential and commercial development in the surrounding area and drew additional federal agencies to what would become the "Suitland Federal Complex".
