Religious Bodies: 1906

Part I of a special report on religious bodies, in which are pre­sented a summary of the results and general tables at the close of the year 1906. Part II presents the statistics and general description of each separate denomination.

The statistics presented in this report rest upon the returns for the local church organizations as collected by the Bureau of the Census under the authority of section 7 of the permanent census act. This report consitutes the fifth collection and publication of these statistics through the agency of the Census.

A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate.
