Estimates of the future size of the national population are often necessary pre­-requisites for both long- and short-range planning by business and government. The Bureau of the Census, over the past decade, has de­veloped and published projections indicating the size of the population that would result if specified assumed levels of fertility, mortality and net immigration were to be real­ized.
