Using data from Waves 1 and 2 of the 2014 SIPP Panel, this brief provides estimates of private, public, and any type of health insurance coverage for 2013 and 2014, both before and immediately after the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). It highlights health insurance dynamics (whether an individual was always insured, chronically uninsured, transitioned into coverage, transitioned out of coverage, or experienced two or more transitions) in this period. Finally, it concludes by examining the characteristics of those who transitioned into coverage as well as those who transitioned out of it.
