This report summarizes the preliminary results of a study to investigate the feasibility of estimating interviewer variance in the CPS. One option of this program would be to provide estimates of interviewer effects periodically on an ongoing basis that would be designed as a permanent part of the CPS. Another option would be a one-time study to estimate the interviewer correlated components associated with the labor force and other characteristics.
A major goal of this study is to determine what design changes, if any, are required for CPS in order that a program of interviewer variance estimation be feasible. Thee design changes would then be considered for future CPS redesigns.
