Written by:
Working Paper Number: SEHSD-WP1994-09 or SIPP-WP-196

Presented at the American Statistical Association Meetings, August 1994.

This paper reports the general results of research undertaken by Census Bureau staff. The views expressed are attributable to the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the Census Bureau.

Survey statisticians use oversampling to reduce variances of key statistics of a target sub-population.  Oversampling accomplishes this by increasing the sample size of the target sub-population disproportionatey.
