Catyna Simon

Atlanta Regional Director, U.S. Census Bureau

Catyna Simon is director of the Atlanta Regional Office, where she began her career at the Census Bureau in 1999 as a supervisory statistician managing multiple surveys. Among them: the Current Population Survey (CPS), the American Community Survey, and the Survey of Income and Program Participation.

In 2003, she was selected area manager for the 2004 Census Test in Thomasville, Georgia, where she gained valuable experience managing decennial operations. At the conclusion of the test, Simon returned to her position as a supervisory survey statistician, which later transitioned into regional survey manager (RSM).

She served in the RSM-E (expert) capacity on the CPS and in the RSM-G (geography) capacity overseeing the Miami Survey Statistician Field Area.

In 2008, Simon was promoted to area manager on the 2010 Census. She managed the Fort Myers office, which had the nation’s largest workload, and seven to 10 other census offices. A decade later, she was again promoted to area manager – this time to work on the 2020 Census.  In 2019, she became assistant regional census manager. In this role, she managed recruiting, decennial operations, the Post Enumeration Survey, automation, space leasing, administration, partnership, and Field Quality Monitoring.

In April 2021, Simon became a program coordinator overseeing regional operations including the CPS, two geography teams, the clerical pool, automation, and geography.

Simon has received three Census Bureau Bronze Medal awards. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in agricultural economics with a concentration in marketing, both from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
