Since joining the Census Bureau in 2002, Jones has served in various roles advising on matters related to privacy, confidentiality, and statistical policy. She previously served as a senior advisor to the chief policy officer, the chief privacy officer, the deputy chief of the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs, and to three directors, and has led many special agency projects—including the Census Bureau’s response to Hurricane Katrina and a special assignment to the Staten Island Local Census Office during the 2010 Census. In 2017, she took a brief assignment at the Department of Homeland Security’s Privacy Office where she was the senior director for privacy policy and oversight.
Before joining the Census Bureau, she worked in the Department of Commerce’s Economics and Statistics Administration for the undersecretary for Economic Affairs, covering decennial census and population issues. From 1998 to 2001, she was with the U.S. Census Monitoring Board, Congressional Members.
Jones is a native of Virginia. She graduated from Queens College in Charlotte, NC, and has a master’s degree from the George Washington University in Washington, DC.
