Senior Leader for Statistical Information Product Development and Use, Research and Methodology Directorate, U.S. Census Bureau

Erika Becker-Medina is the senior leader for Statistical Information Product Development and Use in the Research and Methodology Directorate at the U.S. Census Bureau.

In this role, she provides leadership on the development and use of statistical information products, guiding efforts to modernize the Census Bureau’s portfolio to better meet evolving stakeholder needs. She leads cross-directorate initiatives to strengthen stakeholder engagement, advance user-centered statistical product development, and support the integration of emerging methodologies and technologies. Her work advances enterprise efforts such as the Statistical Product First (SPF) framework, which emphasizes aligning statistical products with real-world use.

Previously, Erika served as a senior advisor to the chief scientist and associate director for Research and Methodology, where she led strategic communications and stakeholder engagement for SPF. She also served as chief of the Decennial Communications Coordination Office (overseeing communication and stakeholder engagement efforts for the 2020 Census) and as acting division chief during a critical phase of 2020 Census operations. Earlier in her career, she led data user outreach for the Economic Census, the Census of Governments, and other key economic data products. Her management career began as a supervisory statistician overseeing surveys on state and local governments, with a specialization in public pensions. Erika brings extensive experience spanning economic, decennial, and research programs, with a focus on connecting statistical innovation with stakeholder use.

Erika holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a master’s certificate in project management from The George Washington University. She is the recipient of several awards including the Census Bureau’s Bronze Medal.
