Jen Shopkorn is the director of the Strategy Team in the Communications Directorate at the U.S. Census Bureau. In this role, she builds strategic communications campaigns, manages the Census Bureau’s relationships with civil society groups. In the run up to the 2020 Census, she was part of the team that created the 2020 Census advertising campaign.
Prior to joining the Census Bureau, Shopkorn served for nearly a decade as the U.S. Secretary of Commerce’s Associate Director for Legislative Affairs handling the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) portfolio and working closely on related policy issues. In that role, she advanced the Department of Commerce’s environmental initiatives and policies. She specialized in natural disaster, fishery, coastal management, weather and satellite issues. She ran the Senate confirmation process for numerous presidentially appointed positions, several of which were confirmed during an administration-wide backlog. In addition, Shopkorn built internal processes and procedures focused on providing quality customer service to members of congress and their staff as well as to internal clients. Prior to serving in the Secretary of Commerce’s Office, she worked for the NOAA administrator, focusing on local fisheries issues as well as disaster preparation and recovery efforts. Shopkorn received a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and a master’s from the University of Delaware.
