Luz Castillo

Assistant Regional Census Manager, U.S. Census Bureau

Luz Castillo is assistant regional census manager of the Community Partnership and Engagement Program (CPEP) for the Los Angeles Regional Census, where she heads a diverse team of partnership specialists working to boost response to the 2020 Census in communities less likely to answer – and often missed in – the once-a-decade population count.

She has extensive experience coordinating community outreach efforts and establishing successful partnerships designed to increase awareness of and participation in the census.

Luz began her career at the U.S. Census Bureau as a partnership specialist/team leader during the 2000 Census and went on to serve as a partnership coordinator for the 2010 Census.

In addition to working on decennial censuses, she served as a data dissemination specialist and coordinated outreach activities during the 2016 Census Test in Los Angeles.  

Luz has a Bachelor of Arts in public policy from Occidental College and a master’s in education from the University of Phoenix. She serves on the board of directors of Navidad En el Barrio – Southern California.

 Luz is originally from Watsonville, Calif., and currently lives in the city of Los Angeles.
