Rachel Marks is a senior advisor on race/ethnicity in the Census Bureau’s Population Division.
Over the past decade, Rachel has served as a subject matter expert on race and ethnicity, most recently as chief of the Census Bureau’s Racial Statistics Branch where she led a research team analyzing 2020 Census and American Community Survey race and ethnicity data.
Rachel has conducted extensive outreach, presentations and workshops with various stakeholder groups throughout her career and was a lead researcher for the 2015 National Content Test, which examined alternative ways to collect data on race and ethnicity. She is a leading expert on disaggregating date for racial/ethnic groups and on the Middle Eastern and North African population in the United States. Rachel has presented her work at numerous academic conferences and professional meetings and discussed race and ethnicity trends with a wide variety of media outlets.
Rachel is the recipient of multiple Department of Commerce Bronze Medal awards and a Silver Medal for the review and analysis of 2020 Census race data.
