Press Release Number CB19-CN.10

OCT. 7, 2019 — The U.S. Census Bureau announced the opening of five Island Areas Census Offices in American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands – St. Croix, and U.S. Virgin Islands – St. Thomas. Each office will be assigned an advisor responsible for overseeing 2020 Census data collection activities in partnership with local governments.

Local dignitaries, community leaders and Census Bureau officials are set to be on hand for the opening ceremonies, scheduled to be held:

  • Oct. 2, American Samoa
  • Oct. 7, Guam
  • Oct. 10, CNMI
  • Oct. 23, U.S. Virgin Islands – St. Thomas
  • Oct. 24, U.S. Virgin Islands – St. Croix

The Island Areas Census Offices will support field operations during the 2020 Census, helping to ensure that everyone is counted once, only once, and in the right place.

They’re currently recruiting for about 2,100 positions offering flexible work hours, including days, evenings and weekends.

The 2020 Island Areas Censuses will collect demographic, social, economic and housing characteristics of American Samoa, CNMI, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Island Areas Censuses questionnaire aligns with the American Community Survey and includes input from local governments.
