U.S. Census Bureau Celebrates Class of 2020

MAY 13, 2020 — The U.S. Census Bureau has released a new webpage highlighting the importance of counting college students and recent graduates in the 2020 Census as they begin the next chapter of their lives. The webpage 2020census.gov/grads shows how census data can affect graduates’ futures, from continuing education to determining where they want to live and work.
New graduates and college students should be counted at the on- or off- campus residence where they lived while attending classes, even if they left before Census Day (April 1, 2020), due to COVID-19-related campus closures. University housing offices count students who lived in student housing like dorms and apartments with “by-the-bed” leases as part of the 2020 Census Group Quarters Operation. Students who lived off campus in private houses, apartments or other nonstudent housing should count themselves at those addresses. Students still have time to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail. For more information, check out this fact sheet and short video.
