Census Bureau Releases Technical Note on Select Topics in International Censuses

Press Release Number CB22-TPS.45

Note Now Available for Using Administrative Data in a Traditional Census

MAY 12, 2022 — The U.S. Census Bureau’s International Programs Center is releasing a series of technical notes on Select Topics in International Censuses (STIC). Each note highlights a new subject, method or operation relevant to census planners in middle- to low-income countries. These notes complement the United Nations Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses by describing certain topics in more detail. Sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the STIC series is designed for staff in national statistical offices to assist them in addressing some of the significant issues in the 2020 round of censuses.

The following new technical note is now available.

This technical note provides information on administrative data sources and their use in supplementing a traditional population and housing census.

Other technical notes recently released include:

This technical note discusses key concepts in geospatial disclosure avoidance and includes a process overview with an example case for implementation. This note builds on the material presented in the previously released “Disclosure Avoidance and the Census” technical note.

This technical note discusses questions to measure economic characteristics in a census and applications of new concepts about labor supply. It focuses on labor force classifications, employment and its related characteristics.
