AUG. 30, 2023 – The U.S. Census Bureau will hold a prerelease webinar Sept. 13 to discuss the 2020 Census Detailed Demographic and Housing Characteristics File A (Detailed DHC-A) to be released to the public on Sept. 21. This product provides population counts and sex by age statistics for approximately 1,500 detailed racial and ethnic groups, such as German, Lebanese, Jamaican, Chinese, Native Hawaiian and Mexican, and detailed American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) tribes and villages like the Navajo Nation.
Data will be available for the nation, states, counties, places (cities and towns), census tracts, and American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian (AIANNH) areas. The amount of data available for the detailed racial and ethnic groups and AIAN tribes and villages depends on their population size within a specific geography. This approach allows the Census Bureau to produce as much detail as possible while ensuring strong confidentiality protections.
Embargoed subscribers will have access to these statistics from Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. EDT to Thursday, Sept. 21, at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
The webinar will provide information on the data that will be available and how to access it.
A live Q&A session with Census Bureau subject-matter experts will immediately follow the briefing.
Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 1-2 p.m. EDT.
The event will be recorded and available for viewing in the 2020 Census Detailed Demographic and Housing Characteristics File A Press Kit. A transcript will also be available in the press kit.
The webinar will consist of an online presentation. Credentialed media and data users will be able to ask questions following the presentation.
