2023 Geographic Mobility Tables Available From the Current Population Survey

Press Release Number: CB24-TPS.118

DECEMBER 10, 2024 — The U.S. Census Bureau today released new geographic mobility and migration estimates for the nation and regions in 2023. The release also includes updates to historical tables and graphs. These new statistics come from the 2023 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC).

The newly released 1-year table package includes detailed information about types of moves from one location of residence to another during the past year, characteristics of people who moved, and the main reason for moving. Some of these breakouts are available in the historical tables and graphs and date back to 1948.

The Census Bureau collects, produces and publishes a range of statistics on geographic mobility and migration using multiple data sources. More information about these data sources and estimates is available on our Migration/Geographic Mobility webpage.
