The Census Bureau identified a processing error in how “own children of the householder” was tabulated in tables B11012, CP02, CP02PR, DP02, and DP02PR of the 2019 ACS 1-year and 5-year data products.

“Own children of the householder” was tabulated as households with a biological son/daughter, adopted son/daughter, or stepson/stepdaughter of the householder under 18. However, the estimate for “own children of the householder” should include only the never-married biological son/daughter, adopted son/daughter, or stepson/stepdaughter of the householder under 18. Children of the householder under 18 who have ever married should have been excluded.

Data users should be aware of this small difference as they make comparisons over time. The affected row labels have been updated beginning with ACS 2020. Please see the User Note “Modification to Calculation of “Children of the Householder” for a description for “children of the householder”.
