The 2020 Census Nonresponse Followup (NRFU) Quality Control operation sought to detect and deter falsification by identifying poor quality work and taking steps to correct it.
During this operation, enumerators would reinterview a selection of respondents who had participated in production interviews regarding their household, which would be followed by a computer matching and clerical matching process that compared the data from the original interview and the reinterview.
Enumerators who had falsified work or had too many cases with poor quality work were released from employment. In addition, any work conducted by enumerators who had falsified or had poor quality work had all their remaining eligible cases selected for reinterview.
This report provides the results of the 2020 NRFU Quality Control operation, as well as recommendations for future census enumeration operations.
