Below is a brief summary of revisions for countries experiencing more than a 500,000 change from the previously estimated 2017 population.
The estimated population of Angola in 2017 is 29.3 million, which is about 8.6 million (41.4 percent) more than our previous estimate. This marked increase is due to higher estimates of fertility, lower mortality, and higher in-migration.
The estimated population of Burma in 2017 is 55.1 million, which is about 2.3 million (4.1 percent) less than our previous estimate. The smaller population is due to increases in out-migration.
The estimated population of Iran in 2017 is 82.0 million, which is about 1.7 million (2.1 percent) less than our previous estimate. The decrease is due to slightly lower fertility and higher assumed out-migration.
The estimated population of Jordan in 2017 is 10.2 million, which is about 2.2 million (26.9 percent) higher than our previous estimate. The larger population is due to increases in refugee arrivals.
The estimated population of Rwanda in 2017 is 11.9 million, about 1.4 million (10.6 percent) lower than our previous estimate. The smaller population is due to lower fertility and increased out-migration.
The estimated population of Zimbabwe in 2017 is 13.8 million, which is about 1.1 million (7.1 percent) less than our previous estimate. The smaller population is due to increased out-migration in the 2000s.
