National Survey of Children’s Health – Longitudinal Cohort (NSCH-LC)

The National Survey of Children’s Health – Longitudinal Cohort (NSCH-LC) is sponsored by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration, an Agency in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The NSCH-LC is a household survey conducted in 2023 and 2024. The NSCH-LC followed up with households that were interviewed for 2018 or 2019 National Survey of Children's Health and examines the physical and emotional health of children and young adults ages 3 to 24 in the United States. The NSCH-LC collected information from parents or caregivers related to the health and well-being of the same children and young adults, including access to and use of health care, family interactions, mental health, school and after-school experiences, and family economic circumstances.

The NSCH-LC is also designed to measure the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on children, young adults, and their families. The results of the NSCH-LC will help inform the development of federal policies and programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of children and young adults. Information is collected from parents, caregivers or previous caregivers who know about the child or young adult's health.
