SIPP Survey Participant Brochures

These brochures show some of the ways responses to the Survey of Income and Program and Participation are used to measure America and inform important policy decisions.  Brochures are available in both English and Spanish.

Why Measure Families with Children?

The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. However, they are also the most vulnerable population group in the country. Therefore, measuring and staying informed about the well-being of the nation’s children is vital to ensuring the future success of the nation as a whole.

In order for the country to know what is needed—how folks are doing and where they need help—we must conduct surveys such as the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) to produce that information.

Because our country is so populous (over 300 million people), we can only survey a scientific sample of the whole population. Thus, your answers to this survey represent thousands of Americans!

Americans work hard everyday, achieving triumphs and facing struggles. By studying both our successes and setbacks, we can help our nation make informed decisions. By law, all personal information collected for this study is kept strictly confidential.

Why Measure Health Coverage and Disability?

Our health is a critical ingredient when it comes to taking care of our family and making ends meet. That means it is impossible to measure how well the population is doing without also measuring their health, disability, and access to health care.

Why Measure Employment and the Labor Force?

Since America’s founding, the labor force has been fundamental to our country’s development and success. Therefore, it is impossible to measure the true well-being of the country without measuring all aspects of the labor force and employment.

Why Measure Wealth and Assets Ownership?

Wealth (total assets minus total debt) is an important indicator of economic well being. Income alone does not provide a complete picture of the resources people have for coping with unforeseen events such as losing a job or an unexpected illness. We measure wealth and asset ownership to understand the economic health of households in the United States.
