The universe for ETANF_PTCS is “owners of a TANF benefit that covers only children or both children and adults” (ETANF_COVTYP = 1 or 3). Owners of a TANF benefit that covers only a pregnant woman (ETANF_COVTYP = 2) should have a missing value for ETANF_PTCS; however, in the 2018 through 2023 SIPP data, owners of a TANF benefit that covers only a pregnant woman were erroneously assigned a ‘no’ value for ETANF_PTCS. Data users can correct this by setting ETANF_PTCS = missing and ATANF_PTCS = 0 when ETANF_COVTYP = 2.
