In 2020 and 2021 SIPP, some cases have incorrect missing values in health insurance variables EHEMPLY1, EPRIVPLAN1, EHDEDPLN1, EMDPLAN, and EMILITYPE.
Data users should follow the guidelines below if they want to identify these cases in the 2020 and 2021 SIPP public use datasets:
In the 2020 data, these cases have missing values in the variable’s corresponding status flag. For example, AHDEDPLN1 = . identifies those cases where EHDEDPLN1 has an incorrect missing value instead of 1 = Yes or 2 = No.
In the 2021 data, these cases have the variable’s corresponding status flag equal to 0 (Not In Universe) and the corresponding edited monthly indicator equal to 1 (Yes). For example, EPR1MTH = 1 and AHDEDPLN1 = 0 identify those cases where EHDEDPLN1 has an incorrect missing value instead of 1 = Yes or 2 = No.
Below are the five health insurance variables, their corresponding status flags and edited monthly indicators:
EHEMPLY1, AHEMPLY1 (Status flag), EPR1MTH (Edited monthly indicator)
EPRIVPLAN1, APRIVPLAN1 (Status flag), EPR1MTH (Edited monthly indicator)
EHDEDPLN1, AHDEDPLN1 (Status flag), EPR1MTH (Edited monthly indicator)
EMDPLAN, AMDPLAN (Status flag), EMDMTH (Edited monthly indicator)
EMILITYPE, AMILITYPE (Status flag), EMLMTH (Edited monthly indicator)
