2025 SIPP: Inconsistencies in School Meal Receipt

There are a small number of cases where children aged 17 in the reference year of 2024 (but aged 18 when the household was interviewed in 2025) have a valid PNUM in RLNGD_MEALS and valid values in RLUNCH_CHLD and RBREAK_CHLD, but the guardian identified in RLNGD_MEALS is erroneously shown as Not in Universe (NIU) for ESCHOOLLUNCH and ESCHOOLBREAK. This is the result of a processing error. Data users can transfer data from the child record to the associated guardian record using the RLNGD_MEALS variable as needed.

Variables Involved
PNUM Person number
RLNGD_MEALS Edited person number of the guardian of children ages 5 to 18 who have not yet graduated from high school.
RLUNCH_CHLD Did child usually get the school lunch that their school provided? On the child’s record.
RBREAK_CHLD Did child usually get the school breakfast that their school provided? On the child’s record.
ESCHOOLLUNCH Did one or more children in the family usually get the lunch their school provided? Universe: RLNGD_MEALS = PNUM.
ESCHOOLBREAK Did one or more children in the family usually get the breakfast that their school provided? Universe: RLNGD_MEALS = PNUM.
