Noise Range Flags

Definitions of noise range flags used in Statistics of U.S. Businesses (SUSB).

  • G - Low noise applied to cell value (less than 2%)
  • H - Medium noise applied to cell value (2% or more but less than 5%)
  •  J - High noise applied to cell value (greater than or equal to 5%) *prior to 2015, ‘J’ flag cell values were suppressed with ‘D’.
  • D - Data withheld and value set to 0 to avoid disclosing information of individual businesses; data are included in higher level totals. *starting with 2017, ‘D’ replaced with ‘S’.
  • S - Data withheld and value set to 0 to avoid releasing information that does not meet publication standards; data are included in higher level totals
