This page shows the equivalent 2007 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) industries for the 2007 Enterprise Classification System (ECS) sectors and categories shown in the prototype 2007 Enterprise Statistics tables. For the sectors, unless otherwise noted, the ECS sector code is the equivalent NAICS code. The abbreviation "n.e.c." indicates "not elsewhere classified."
A classification system for employer firms is also available.
NOTE: In the Enterprise Statistics Program, manufacturers' sales branches and offices are treated as nonoperating establishments. In Tables A1 - A2B and B3, they are included in the "other establishments" sector.
NOTE: Government-owned liquor stores (NAICS 445310) are covered in the 2007 Economic Census.
NOTE: Rail Transportation (NAICS 482) and the U.S. Postal Service (NAICS 491) are outside the scope of the 2007 Economic Census. In the Enterprise Statistics Program, establishments that primarily provide services to other establishments of the same company, such as Warehousing and Storage (NAICS 493), are included as "auxiliaries" in the Other Establishments sector.
NOTE: Government-owned university press publishers (part of NAICS 511130 and 519130) are covered in the 2007 Economic Census.
NOTE: Funds, Trusts, and Other Financial Vehicles (NAICS 525) are outside the scope of the 2007 Economic Census. For the Enterprise Statistics Program, Monetary Authorities - Central Bank (NAICS 521110) is treated as outside the scope of the 2007 Economic Census, and Offices of Bank Holding Companies (NAICS 551111) is treated as a part of the Finance and Insurance sector.
NOTE: In the Enterprise Statistics Program, establishments that primarily provide services to other establishments of the same company, such as Computer Systems Design and Related Services (NAICS 5415) and Scientific Research and Development Services (NAICS 5417), are included as "auxiliaries" in the Other Establishments sector.
NOTE: In the Enterprise Statistics Program, Offices of Other Holding Companies (NAICS 551112) are treated as a part of the Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services sector.
NOTE: Elementary and Secondary Schools (NAICS 6111), Junior Colleges (NAICS 6112), and Colleges, Universities, and Professional Schools (NAICS 6113) are outside the scope of the 2007 Economic Census. Government-owned hospitals (part of NAICS 622) are covered in the 2007 Economic Census.
NOTE: Religious Organizations (NAICS 8131), Labor Unions and Similar Labor Organizations (NAICS 81393), Political Organizations (NAICS 81394), and Private Households (NAICS 814) are outside the scope of the 2007 Economic Census.
