This research is categorized as a Census Bureau Demonstration Product. Particular care must be taken when interpreting the statistics in this release.
Census Bureau Demonstration Products may use new methods which are under development and/or data sources which may not have complete coverage. Publishing outputs as a Demonstration Product allows the Census Bureau to provide useful new information to users and get informed feedback on these new methods and outputs whilst at the same time making sure that that the limitations are well explained and understood.
Official population estimates are produced by the Population Estimates Program in the Population Division.
The underlying assumptions and methodologies are different in this demonstration release as compared to the official published estimates of the population. Therefore, disparities are to be expected and can be seen. Some attributes researched in this project are not available from administrative data, and some datasets lack geographical detail. The Census Bureau will continue to develop these methodologies to estimate the population and will continue to report on future iterations of this study.
As well as the strict legal protections set out in Title 13 and other regulations, the Census Bureau is committed to protecting individual privacy of the people from all of the data sources. All results have been approved by release by the Disclosure Review Board. For further information on the data sources, linking procedures and limitations of the various methods in this project, please see further details in the presentations and research papers.
