CPS ASEC Redesign & Processing Changes: Families & Households

The CPS ASEC Redesign and Processing Changes incorporate several changes in how household and family relationships are defined. Since 2007, the instrument has included a direct cohabitation question, and more recent changes include the way respondents are asked to identify parents in the household, or respond to the relationship to householder question, as well as changes to editing procedures for same-sex couples. These changes provide richer demographic detail of family life in the U.S.
