The American Community Survey (ACS) ancestry data tables do not include Asian populations. Instead, data for the Asian population are available in the race tables.
Some population groups are listed in both ancestry and race tables. For example, German may be included in either an ancestry or race table because the response can be captured from the ancestry or race question. Detailed White, Black or African American, and Some Other Race groups have historically been tabulated from the ancestry question on the American Community Survey (ACS). However, improvements made to the race question in 2020 led to more detailed race groups being collected. Beginning with the 2024 ACS data products, detailed race data for White, Black or African American, and Some Other Race groups are included in race tabulations. Differences in the way the ancestry and race questions are asked, processed, and tabulated may lead to differences between ancestry and race estimates for a given group. For more information on ancestry and race estimates, please see the ACS User Note, Overlapping Race and Ancestry Estimates in the American Community Survey Data Products website.
