This is the eleventh volume of the 11 final reports of the Fourteenth Census, taken in the year 1920. The statistics and other materials found in these volumes are based upon data originally issued as advance bulletins for population, agriculture, irrigation, drainage, manufactures, and mines and quarries.
Volume XI, Mine and Quarries, presents stats relating to mining industries in 1919. The advance state bulletins for 45 States and Alaska are incorporated with the reports for selected mineral industries, e.g., coal; petroleum and natural gas; iron ore; gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc; stone; phosphate rock; and gypsum.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
