Abstract

This report contains projections of the United States population by age, sex, and race for the years 1983 to 2080. They are based on the July 1, 1982, population estimates and race definitions and are projected forward using the cohort-component method with alternative assumptions for future fertility, mortality, and net immigration levels. These assumptions are shown in table A. The series using the middle assumption for each of the three components is designated as the "middle series." Projections of this series are shown annually by sex and race (White and Black) to 2000, and quinquennially thereafter to 2080. Single year of age information is shown through age 84 and 5-year age groups are provided to age 100 years and over. Five-year age group detail by sex and race is provided for the alternative highest and lowest total population series and the aforementioned years. All other series are shown by 5-year age groups, without sex or race detail, for each future year ending in 0 or 5 to 2030, and selected dates after that time. There are a total of 30 series representing each possible combination of the high, middle, and low assumptions plus three zero migration series.
