The Census Bureau’s construction statistics program commenced more than 30 years ago. In the years since then, the Bureau has tried to keep the program’s statistics sound and relevant by introducing specific improvements. Still, the program has not undergone an extensive review by a wide range of users during this whole period. The fall 1997 Construction Statistics Data Users’ Conference rep- resented the Bureau’s attempt to remedy this oversight.
