Kentucky Complete Count Task Force

2020

Organizations across the country supported the 2020 Census. We regularly featured some of them here, looking at who they are and why an accurate census is so important to them.

The Kentucky Complete Count Task Force included representatives from the state's largest employers, philanthropic organizations, nonprofits, and universities as well as state and local government officials.

As part of its outreach, the task force was focused on incorporating 2020 Census messaging into two annual events that are cultural institutions in Kentucky: the March Madness college basketball tournament and the Kentucky Derby.

Both events were ultimately affected by COVID-19. March Madness was scheduled to begin around the time invitations to complete the census started to go out, in March 2020. And first Saturday in May, the traditional Derby Day, would have been about the time the Census Bureau started following up with homes that hadn't yet responded to the census.
