Period of service: Veterans are categorized in their most recent period of wartime service. For example, a veteran who served in both Gulf War I and Gulf War II would be categorized as “Gulf War II” for this analysis.
Veteran-owned business: U.S. military service veterans own 51 percent or more of the equity, interest, or stock of the business.
Service-connected disability: A disability, disease, or injury incurred or aggravated during active military service. The degree of disability (rating) is graduated from 0 to 100 percent in increments of 10 percent.
Unemployment rate: the number of unemployed people as a percentage of the civilian labor force.
Uses VA health care: those who have ever used or enrolled in Department of Veterans Affairs health care.
